Art with Emily Rose Michaud

Our special guest is Emily Rose Michaud! Emily Rose Michaud is an interdisciplinary artist and educator working at the crossroads of community organization, ecology and civic participation. Her body of work encompasses land-based art, installation, drawing, writing, and performance/intervention. She will be speaking about her art projects she has worked on and is working on right now and the link they have with water. As well, Emily will be showing many pictures of her artwork.

Cooking and Conversation with Chef Maluh

Our special guest speaker for this event is Marlene Hale! Marlene Hale is an Indigenous chef from the Wet’suwet’en Nation who developed a passion for cooking growing up in her community. In addition to running a catering business that specializes in West Coast First Nation cuisine, she teaches cooking classes and gives back to the Native community by speaking to First Nation organizations on subjects such as childhood obesity and diabetes. We are honoured to have her join our youth group as a special guest speaker to discuss her perspective on the Boil Water Advisories while teaching us how to bake the delicious delicacy of bannock.

A Discussion about Water Stewardship and Water Ceremonies

  • Margaret Boyle, our first guest speaker, will be leading a Water Ceremony and will be discussing water issues for Indigenous Nations in North America.

  • Edgar Hernandez, our second guest speaker, is a University of Ottawa alumni and mentee artist. He will be talking about his art, which is focused on climate change, and also will address water issues for the Mayan nation focused on Guatemala.

  • Akawui Riquelme, our third guest speaker, is a Chilean Indigenous Singer-Songwriter whose performances deliver a powerful message about the plight of Indigenous people world-wide and the modern urban Indigenous experience. He will be speaking about water issues in the Mapuche Territory in South America.

  • Lisa Marie Roy, our fourth guest speaker, is a wellness healer as well as an Aboriginal mentor who strives to help others live happier, healthier lives and reconnect to their ancestral roots. She will be performing a virtual Water Ceremony with Margaret Boyle
